Late September is finally feeling like fall, which means the new jacket Miamisburg donor Marc Troike brought to work isn’t so conspicuous anymore. It was summer weather on Sept. 15 when Marc received his “Donor for Life” jacket celebrating his milestone 100th lifetime donation at Community Blood Center.
“I’ll be hanging it over my cubicle at work for the rest of the day!” Marc said after his milestone donation. The “Donor for Life – 100 LTD” embroidery on the jacket surely impressed his colleagues at Verso Corporation in Miamisburg where Marc is a senior specialist in Business Intelligence and Data Management.
Marc began donating whole blood in the early 90’s when he was physics major at Miami University. He earned a master’s degree in physics at Kansas State University before working in data base administration. Marc and his wife Jill have two children, ages 18 and 20.
He began donating platelets and plasma donor in 2014. “Somebody called and said there was a need and if I would try it,” he said. “Apparently my platelet count is pretty high.”
He was soon donating twice a month, and suddenly his 100th donation milestone was in sight. “After I started apheresis I thought it was an obtainable goal, but I never thought I would get that far,” he said. “It makes me feel good to donate. It’s helping somebody.”
