Centerville donor Bill Morgan visited the downtown Dayton Community Blood Center (CBC) Friday, Jan. 16 to make his 126th lifetime blood donation. With his white beard trimmed, his body lean, and dressed in Green Bay Packer green, he looked more like a leprechaun that the character he portrayed at another milestone donation. He was in full Santa Claus gear when he made his 101st donation in December of 2013.

As a former professional Santa, Bill is a busy man at Christmas time. He made more than 20 appearances during this last holiday season. “They’re all charity events, except for one,” he said. “I made one corporate appearance. They pay me, and I use the money to buy toys for families in the St. Vincent de Paul shelter. My wife Bonnie, that was one of her causes. She passed away two and half years ago – we were married 42 years. Every year, that’s one that I’ve got to do.”

When Bill made his 101st donation dressed as Santa in 2013 he talked about his plans for delivering presents to the St. Vincent Family Shelter on Christmas Day. “Of course the kids get excited,” he said, “but the moms seem to have even more fun with it than the kids do!”

Bill is an apheresis donor and can donate platelets up to 24 times per year. Despite his busy schedule he faithfully made his 24 donations last year. With Friday’s donation, he began another year as a Donor for Life.

As for his sudden weight loss when he’s no longer the man in red, he explains that it’s all about the tailoring. “The padding is all in the suit,” he said. “My wife used to say she’d rather see it hanging in the closet than hanging on me!”

He’ll sit back this weekend in front of the TV and pull for his Packers in the NFC Championship game against the Seattle Seahawks. “I go back to the Lombardi days,” he said. “I tell people I’m a Green Bay fan because the weather up there is the only place worse than the North Pole!”
