Airmen First Class from Wright Patterson Air Force Base spent most of Wednesday, Nov. 19 volunteering at Community Blood Center/Community Tissue Services.   Seven members of the National Air & Space Intelligence Center GXSR squad helped CBC/CTS by applying 4,665 procurement ID labels to tissue recovery packets.

Each label will be assigned to a unique donor when the packet is sent to a CTS branch or a CTS partner for tissue donation recovery.  Part of the Airmen’s volunteer work included inspecting the “red dot” radiation indicator on each packet, confirming that all 4,665 have been properly irradiated to eliminate risk of infection.  When the labels are assigned to a donor they are entered into the CTS database and follow the donation from recovery through production.

The volunteers included A1C’s Sung Kim, Kevin Coleman, Edward Wilcox, Clifford Boese, Dakoda White, Calvin Hodits and Jason Lloyd. The National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) is the USAF unit for analyzing intelligence on foreign air and space forces, weapons, and systems.

The Airmen also toured the CBC Dayton Donor Center labs for a behind-the-scenes look at the blood donation, blood component separation and blood testing processes.
