Fairborn High School student Georgia ChaseWehner was on a mission the minute she turned 16. She was now eligible, with her parents’ permission, to donate blood. It took about week for her first opportunity, and she donated. Now she’s up to six lifetime donations – and she is still only sweet 16.
Georgia’s dad is a dedicated donor, so the example was set for her early in life. In fact, she can call herself a protégé “I did it for the cookies!” donor.
“When I was really little I would sit and eat cookies while he donated and then we’d go grocery shopping,” she recalls with a smile. “Kroger has lots of cookies, so I’d have more. That definitely made it worth waking up early for a little kid!”
Georgia was born into this role of lifesaver in another way, and again it’s all in the family. Her sister Isabelle “Izzy” ChaseWehner is a leukemia survivor. CBC applauded her effort last year as captain of her family’s Light the Night team for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraising walk. Izzy has bravely emerged from treatment strong enough to beat the disease and go off to college at Ohio State.
